NVIDIA DGX-1: World’s First Supercomputer For Deep Learning And AI

Short Bytes: NVIDIA, the leading maker of GPUs, has announced DGX-1 — the world’s first dedicated supercomputer for deep learning AI applications. This beast delivers 170 teraflops performance, thanks to 8 Tesla P100 deep learning GPUs and high-end Intel Xeon processor.
NVIDIA has announced that it has created a new supercomputer for catering the needs of deep learning and artificial intelligence researchers. Dubbed as DGX-1, NVIDIA calls it the first deep learning supercomputer in a box.
It isn’t a hidden fact that complex neural networks need a great deal of computing power and NVIDIA aims to answer all the requirements with its DGX-1 monster. To power this supercomputer, company has made a cluster of 8 Tesla P100 deep learning GPUs with 16GB of RAM each.
The Tesla P100 GPUs are NVIDIA’s latest deep learning chips made for data centers. It uses the latest Pascal GPU architecture that’s based on the 16-nanometer fabrication node. “It’s the largest chip that’s ever been made,” company CEO Jen-Hsun Huang claimed.
Apart from Tesla P100 GPUs, DGX-1 also makes use of Intel’s high-end Xeon Processors. As a result, this supercomputer delivers 170 teraflops performance that’s equivalent to 250 servers with only Intel processors. DGX-1 comes with a mammoth 7TB storage for saving all the raw data during the training.

If we talk about money, the Tesla P100 GPUs cost between $2 billion and $3 billion to develop. On the other hand, NVIDIA is selling its deep learning supercomputers for $129,000.
DGX-1 supercomputer has already got its firm customer as Massachusetts General Hospital. The organization is working to use the benefits of AI in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. It’ll be using NVIDIA DGX-1 machines to train the neural networks using its vast resources.
This unique combination of hardware and software enabled you to make use of major deep learning frameworks, the NVIDIA Deep Learning SDK, the DIGITS™ GPU training system, drivers, and CUDA for rapidly designing deep neural networks (DNN).

Vivaldi 1.0 Browser Released With New Features, Download It Here For Windows, Linux, OS X

Short Bytes: Vivaldi, a new web browser for power users, has finally hit the stable version 1.0. It’s created by the founder and ex-CEO of Opera with an aim to provide heavy customization options to the users. Read more to know about its features and download it for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.
When Vivaldi was announced about a year ago, it was called the complete replacement of web browsers like Chrome and Firefox that depend on extensions for doing things. This web browser from the founder and ex-CEO of Opera is basically for power users who are sick and tired of Google Chrome (here’s how to make Chrome faster).
The last major cross-platform web browser was launched long back in 2008 in the form of Google Chrome. With time, the browser market became stagnant and people got more dependable on apps. However, shaking up things a little bit, Vivaldi has finally launched version 1.o, and it’s available for all major platforms like Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.

Vivaldi is made for power users and based on open source Chromium project

While Chrome works with a focus on simplicity, speed, and security, Vivaldi is built to cater these need along with more customization options by giving more power to the users.
It’s based on the open source Chromium project and makes use of Blink rendering engine and V8 JavaScript engine. The user interface of the browser is written in JavaScript and it’s based on Node.js and React.
I’ve been testing Vivaldi from past few months, and I’m already impressed by the different ways it allows you to tweak your browsing experience. Just when you finish installing the browser, you are asked to set certain preferences of the position of tabs, shades and color of the taskbar and tabs, and the background wallpaper to deliver a more personalized experience.
While the browser makes use of Chrome extensions, you won’t be needing them at many instances as the browser has already a lot to offer.

Best and biggest features of Vivaldi 1.0 web browser:

Tab Stacks: If you are looking at your Vivaldi web browser and feeling like too many tabs are opened, simply drop tabs on the top of each other and make a stack. When you are making a switch between the tabs, there are more customization options.
Tab Stack Tiling: This feature is useful while working on a big screen. With multiple tab stacking, you can see multiple pages at the same time — just like multiple desktops.
Sessions: The better browser management in Vivaldi allows you to set your personalized set of tabs as a session for restoring it again in future.
Notes: Right in the web browser, Vivaldi allows you to take notes and screenshots.
Quick commands: Using an easy-to-use command interface, you can take a look at history, bookmarks, settings, open tabs and more.
Mouse gestures and keyboard shortcuts: Vivaldi supports mouse gestures to let you use the web browser the way you like. The same functionality is also provided by keyboard shortcuts.
Speed Dial and Bookmarks: You can access your speed dials and bookmarks from any blank tab.
Web Panels: You can visit websites in the sidebar of your Vivaldi browser to browser Facebook posts or chat, tweets — everything alongside the primary browsing.
You can know about more features here — Vivaldi 1.0 features.

Download Vivaldi for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X

As mentioned earlier, Vivaldi web browser runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. You can visit Vivaldi download pages and choose the specific version.

That Time When Instead of Saying 'April Fool!' Google Had to Say 'Sorry!'

Unintentional consequences led Google to pull its April Fools' prank, Gmail Mic Drop, a few hours after launching it on Friday.
The joke let users claim the last word in an email thread by clicking on the "Send + Mic Drop" option. A GIF of a minion from the animated movieDespicable Me -- would accompany the reply, and the sender would not receive any further responses to the thread.
The "send and mic drop" button, which was located next to the "send" button, replaced the "send and archive" button.
"Due to a bug, the Mic Drop feature inadvertently caused more headaches than laughs. We're truly sorry," said Victor-bogdan Anchidin, a Google software engineer.

User Reactions

"Accidentally hit this new 'mic drop' button halfway through composing a professional email. Dying to remove this thing," Sam Culkins wrote on the Gmail Help forum.
"I don't want and don't need 'Send and Drop Mic,'" wrote chuckfulton7134. "How do I delete that rather obnoxious orange button? I especially don't want to click it by accident and end a conversation unintentionally."
One writer claimed to have lost his job because he inadvertently sent articles to his editor using the Mic Drop button. Another user claimed he lost a job opportunity after accidentally activating the feature in an email containing his resume.

Why the Prank Failed

Google has been successful with previous April Fools' pranks, including the Google Racing Nascar prank back in 2013. Jointly created with NASCAR, MentalPlex and Luna/X, it listed fictitious job opportunities for a research center on the moon.
So why did the Gmail Mic Drop prank fail?
"You never mess with what someone uses to get work done," noted Rob Enderle, principal analyst at the Enderle Group.
Send and Mic Drop "was ill-considered," he told TechNewsWorld. It was the kind of prank that "might be fun in a department, but one that would always be a disaster if done on a national scale."
Poor timing may have played a part.
"The genealogy of this prank clearly maps to what's happening with the Hillary emails," observed Mike Jude, a research manager at Frost & Sullivan. "People are very polarized on this subject."

The Need to Play Pranks

April Fools' Day is like a pressure valve for society that recalibrates things back into place, according to sociologist Jonathan Wynn. Pranks provide a chance to break not just norms, but the norms of order.
A good prank can serve as a reminder that we're all human, suggested psychologist Kelly Motner.
"A sense of humor is a good thing," remarked Jim Tirias, principal analyst atTirias Research.
"I put a WAV file on a colleague's computer once that would crank up the volume and start yelling, 'I'm watching porno,'" he confessed to TechNewsWorld.

April Fools' Day Pranks of Yore

Orbitz launched a time travel website on April Fools Day 2013, offering excursions to the past and the future.
"We're driving up a huge sale on hotels to infinity and beyond!" the website exclaimed. "Save big on hotels across time, now until April 2, 2013."
Google "has been responsible for some of the better tech-related pranks of the past few years, including Google Gulp in 2005, Gmail Paper in 2007, and Google Translate for Animals in 2010," recalled Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT.
He also has "a soft spot for some of the goofy products" Think Geek launches on April Fools' Day. "The fact that the company occasionally turns joke products into real offerings is the best prank of all."
April Fools' jokes "are only amusing when they poke fun at frivolous things," King told TechNewsWorld. "That's a point Google likely now understands fully."

This Simple Trick Can Hack Your WhatsApp Account

A new vulnerable found in WhatsApp which allow hackers to hack WhatsApp account.

HOW DOES THIS TRICK WORKS?

  • First hacker setup WhatApp on a new phone using the target’s phone number
  • From WhatsApp, the hacker calls up the phone number on the target’s phone and provides the requisite PIN code to authenticate the account.
  • If the hacker has access to the phone, then he can answer the phone call and take the PIN code
  • Anyone can answer the WhatsApp call without unlocking the screen on the phone, even if lockscreenfeature is enabled.
  • This trick bypasses the security password mechanism that is required to access key phone features.
  • Especially on iPhones configured with Siri authentication for lockscreen are even more vulnerable to access without any Pin, as contact details will be readily available for access through Siri’s settings.
  • In other way if the person attempting to steal WhatsApp account information does not have the target’s phone number, he/she can still get it easily by calling their own number from target’s phone via Siri.
Here is a YouTube video which explains you how a WhatsApp account can be hijacked with a simple trick

Oracle: With $22 billion in profit, Android has made $31 billion for Google

Android operating system started in November 2007 with the release of the Android alpha. The first version, Android 1.0 was released in September 2008.
Oracle sued Google for using its Java software without paying for it to develop Android operating system.
According to Oracle lawyer said in Bloomberg reports that, Android operating system has generated revenue of $31 billion, with $22 billion in profit.
Main income was generated from advertisements seen on Android devices and from Google Play.

Google is urging a San Francisco federal judge to redact and seal portions of the public transcript from last week’s hearing where this information was made public.
Google makes the claim that, “non-public financial data is highly sensitive, and public disclosure could have significant negative effects on Google’s business.” Oracle is currently seeking $1 billion in damages from Google.
In 2012 Oracle sued Google for $6 billion, but the judge rejected that amount as too high.

New 3D Touch To The Timeline – Facebook

With the Facebook’s iOS app users will soon be able to press on links, profiles and more, in order to preview content without having to navigate away from their current spot using their 3D Touch feature, which is available in the latest Apple devices. The places where this can be used as follows : web links, profiles, Facebook Pages, Facebook Groups, Facebook Events, photos, profile pictures, and cover photos.
According to a Facebook spoke person said that, “We are excited to start rolling out support for 3D Touch in our iOS app so people can quickly and easily peek into a preview of anything they are interested in on Facebook, and pop into that content to see more,”

This new 3D Touch takes advantage of the new hardware’s pressure-sensitive screen to allow users to hard-press on items to preview content and then optionally act on it. For instance, a slight press on messages in the new iPhones ‘pops’ up a preview of the message without the user having to open the message. Facebook is currently testing the feature with a small group of users but it could take months before everyone gets the update.

Changing Time and Date setting to Jan 1, 1970 will brick your iPhone

A simple bug in iPhone founded by Zach Straley on YouTube shows that if you set the time and date to January 1, 1970 will brick your iPhone.
The iOS device will fail to boot, stuck at display of Apple logo.

This glitch got lot of attention on reddit with people experimenting on their iPhone devices to see if it worked. This glitch works on any iOS device that uses a 64-bit processor and is running iOS 8 or newer, including iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches. To avoid this, simply let your iPhone automatically set the time.
For people who tried this for fun and got their iPhone bricked had to visit to their local Apple store and replace their iPhone under warranty.
Other way to fix this problem is to wait until the battery die and then plug the charger in iPhone and reset. You can see blue screen for about 3 seconds after few minutes. This worked for few people and didn’t work for others.

Malware Can Be Hidden In Drive-By Download Exploits Using HTML5.

Hackers can use drive-by download method to install malware, spyware or computer viruses on victims computer. Most of these type of exploits are spotted by antivirus softwares, which made the attackers to think different techniques to hide their actions.
On 2013 a research was done and redone in July 2015. Researchers tested out their HTML5-based using VirusTotal antiviurs engines and used security bugs in Internet Explorer and Firefox
Developers use three different ways for confusing and clearing malicious code. These methods were successful  against static and dynamic analysis detection engines

  • Delegated Preparation –  Delegates the preparation of malware to the system APIs.
  • Distributed Preparation – Distributes the preparation code over several concurrent and independent processes running within the browser.
  • User-driven Preparation – Lets the user trigger the execution of the preparation code during the time he spends interacting with the page.
Researchers says that,”A further investigation revealed that this failure [to detect the obfuscated malware] was due to the inability of these [detection] systems  to  recognize  and  deal  with  HTML5  related  primitives.”

CYBER ATTACK Israel’s Electrical Power Grid Hit With A Massive Cyber Attack

Israel’s Electricity Authority experienced a massive cyber attack that officials are still working to repel. “The virus was already identified and the right software was already prepared to neutralize it”, Israeli Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz told attendees of a computer security conference in Tel Aviv, according to this articlepublished Tuesday by The Times of Israel.

This severe attack was detected on Monday as temperatures in Jerusalem dipped to below freezing creating two days of record-breaking electricity consumption of of 12,610 Megawatts. Some of its computer systems had been shut down for two days in response to the attack.
“We’d to paralyze many of the computers of the Israeli Electricity Authority. We are handling the situation and I hope that soon, this very serious event will be over…but as of now, computer systems are still not working as they should”,concluded Steinitz.
The suspects behind the attack has not yet been found. The problem has not yet been solved but computer technicians are still work on it to fix it.

3 Employees Of Wipro Were Arrested Over Hacking UK Firm TalkTalk

It had already faced a major cyberattack in October 2015, that had compromised the personal and financial details including bank account information of more than 157,000 customers.
“Following the October 2015 cyber-attack, we have been conducting a forensic review to ensure that all aspects of our security are as robust as possible including that of our suppliers. Acting on information supplied by TalkTalk, the local police have arrested three individuals who have breached our policies and the terms of our contract with Wipro. We are also reviewing our relationship with Wipro”, TalkTalk said in a statement.
The Kolkata-based workers were arrested earlier this month following a data security review by the London-based firm, which then alerted Indian police.

HSBC Bank Suffers A Cyber Attack

British bank HSBC’s online banking website is down with a cyber attack leaving thousands of customers unable to access its services. Though HSBC successfully defended this attack but services are disrupted on a key day for many people’s personal finances.
A spokesperson said HSBC had been hit by a distributed denial of service (DDos) attack but did not mention about the source of the attack. HSBC said that no customer details had been compromised by the attack and that it was working closely with law enforcement authorities to pursue the criminals responsible.

HSBC-error
“We are working hard to restore services, and normal service is now being resumed”, HSBC UK tweeted. HSBC also experienced problems with its online banking services although that was put down to technical issues rather than a malicious attack.
